Many contemporary children’s films that fill the little ones in the house with wonder are based on books you did not know. These books can be an opportunity to get your child interested in the world of reading. In this way, he can develop his imagination and his memory, relating and distinguishing the aspects that characterize the film and the book.

In the following lines we suggest a series of children ‘s films based on contemporary books. They will be useful to ensure that your family can enjoy the pleasures offered by both cinema and reading.

Children’s films based on books

1.  In the land of wild creatures

This gorgeous children’s illustrated classic was transposed to the big screen by big-screen director Spike Jonze in 2009, with a truly wonderful result.

In the land of wild creatures is a film full of sweetness and dreams, but also of courage and wonder. A must see movie, maybe after reading the book!

2. Peter Rabbit

Although the adventures of Peter Rabbit, the famous character born from the pen of Beatrix Potter, were published a long time ago, in 2018 a film based on this series hit theaters.

The film, titled  Peter Rabbit , is a mix of animation and live action cinema . It tells the adventures of Peter Rabbit, his family and friends, as well as their relationship with the humans featured in the story.

The stories of Beatrix Potter, from which a television series had already been taken, have made the leap to the big screen thanks to the warm welcome they have received from the little ones, despite the many years that have passed since their first publication. The importance of these stories is such that they  have been published in more than 25 languages and have therefore been distributed all over the world.

As this is a series of short stories without a  continuity , just like  Goleador , your child has the opportunity to read them starting with the title he prefers.

3.  Ferdinand , another of the children’s films based on books

The story of the bull Ferdinand  was originally published in 1936, and its author, the American Munroe Leaf, set it in Spain, where the Civil War was raging at the time. This pacifist story was banned in Francoist Spain and Nazi Germany, and its most famous illustrated version, with drawings by Werner Klemke, was made much later.

These illustrations are so beautiful that, thanks to them, Klemke received the Golden Apple Award at the Bratislava Biennale.

In 1938, Disney made a short film entitled  Ferdinand the Bull . In 2017, however, the bull Ferdinand returned to being the protagonist of a children’s film based on a book: Ferdinand . It is a story recommended for children aged seven or eight and which will make them reflect on the world of bullfighting.

Through the pages of this book, we will get to know a bull different from the others, which, instead of competing with other bulls, prefers to sit and enjoy the lawn and the flowers it is surrounded by.

A film and a book that will not leave children or adults indifferent. The story, unfortunately, retains all its relevance, despite the many years that have passed since Munro Leaf wrote and published it.
